There are lots of places to eat on the beach in Sanur but my favorites are the little locally owned warongs. Sure there isn't as much choice (lots of variations on nasi goreng and calamari usually) but there is always delicious watermelon juice, Bintang, soft sand and the ocean! My go to is probably Warung Pantai Indah because its so close, just across the street and through the cow field. They play great electro mixes, are generally laid back and the california chicken is pretty good. There are also plenty of local warongs south of the Bali Hyatt. I love Beach Warongs especially with Theo since he can play in the sand and if we are taking ages and he starts to get bored a quick walk on the sea shore always cheers him up.

Taco Beach Grill
Post taco coma from their amazing baja fish tacos, babi guling taco (made from Bali's famous bbq pig which is grilled on a spit for hours) and my favorite the atomic Chile pepers!
Night Out
Every Wednesday and Friday night Theo plays with Kade and Janet while Michel and I have a night out. Here are a few of our favorite date night spots:
1 Charming Resto : A french restaurant in Sanur with a quintette to serenade you and the most amazing escargot. I'd also recommend the local wine, its called 2islands and is made in Bali!
2 Roti Cannei: Delicious crepe meets nan meets grilled cheese sandwiches. I always order teh tarik cardamon (cold) and a roti keju pisang sui sui (cheese banana and condensed milk) mmmmmm
3 Arma: The Ubud restaurant outside the Arma Museum. Great spot to eat after scoping out all the traditional paintings from the 1930s and wandering the museum's beautiful gardens. Perfect for a date evening just south of the monkey forest and all the bussel of Ubud!
4, 5 Jimbulan: Another Sanur pick with delicious Indonesian and Mexican food
6 The pool bar: Free pool and billards with tables from all over the world (did you know there are no holes in dutch billards?) often open until 4 am, not that I'm up that late
5 Manik Oragik: A yoga and dance studio in Ubud with delicious organic, raw and vegan choices. Great Chai lattes too

Drinks on the beach
Drinks on the beach at our local beachside warung. Theo and I really enjoyed dancing to their techno mix and the light over the water around 6 is just amazing. I'll have to bring my reflex camera next time to get the full effect. I also can't believe how big the baby cow is now, he was tiny when we first saw him in February! Theo loves saying hi to them and mooooooing as we walk by:)
Bahasa Eats
We are having a superb time discovering local food and trying out all the warungs around our villa. I enjoy cooking, but we quickly realized that grocery shopping at our local store Hardys (a huge place with everything you need to cook local, french, mexican, japanese, american) is way more expensive then walking to a local warung or the night market in sanur and eating there. In addition to being cheaper, eating out gives us a chance to practice our fledgling bahasa skills. Here is a bit of what we can say so far:
I am hungry - Saya lapar
I am thirsty - Saya haus
I am full - Saya kenyang
I want to eat... -Saya mau makan...
I really like fish satay - Saya suka sekali sate ikan
I want to order one hot ginger tea please - Saya mau pesan teh jahe panas satu.
I like to try Indonesian food - Saya mau coba makanan Indonesian
Can I order one avocado smoothie please? - Bisa saya pesan satu alpukat kocok?
Do you have a lunch special? - Apa kamu punya menu spesial makan siang?
I love spicy food - Saya suka makanan pedas
The Porch in Sanur
The porch in Sanur is a great little cafe. We came today because Michel was in dire need of wifi and I must say I couldn't be happier sitting here with my scones and coffee, catching up on the goings on with NPR and relaxing in the shade.
