Tying a Sarong

One of the best things i've learned since moving to Bali is how to properly tie a sarong. It sounds simple but last summer i'd tie a sarong or scarf around my waist and 20 minutes later I'd have to re-tie it. So here is how to tie a sarong so you can start the day wandering the beach, hop on a motor bike to explore and end the evening knelling in a temple without ever worrying about loosing your sarong.

step 1: with legs apart wrap the sarong around your waist

step 2: line up the sarong so one edge is to your left

step 3: pinch a corner of the sarong near your waist and tie this piece to the edge of the sarong

For more tips on how to tie sarongs, scarfs and kaftans you can see this wonderful turband video or these ways to wear videos from Theodora and Callum. The top image is a print from their collection worn as a dress and head scarf.

DIY Summer Cut-Offs

How do you take your shorts? Bleached, lacy, distressed? Refinery 29 has a great article on how to DIY some stylish cut-offs. Makes me wish I hadn't left all my pants in Paris. Here are the three I would like to try. You?

Have a Beautiful Earth Day

Of course Earth Day is about a lot more then buying new makeup, however I firmly believe that the best way to encourage good habits is to make it fun and these beauty products defiantly make green fun healthy and luxe. My top environmentally and skin friendly product picks include:

1. This natural, bee-inspired skin care collection features holistic treatments and creams based on propolis, bee pollen, honey, and royal jelly, all sustainably sourced from the brands very own bee farm.

2, "One third of personal care products contain at least one chemical linked to cancer," according to a report by the Environmental Working Group. Instead of petrochemicals, parabens, preservatives or phthalates, this versatile makeup line uses good-for-you extracts like organic pomegranate, reishi mushroom, and green tea. Their all-in-one color stick is aptly named the Universalist.

3. Tata Harper because how many beauty mavens own a farm where they grow the ingredients found in their skin care line?

4. Not only is this British brand one of the oldest organic lines, it's also one of the most eco-friendly. Neal's Yard Remedies is a family-owned company that produces their products in their very own "eco-factory," has CarbonNeutral status, uses minimum preservatives, and makes all of their pampering skin care products with a mix of locally-grown and sustainably-sourced organic ingredients. Says founder Peter Kindersley, "We love organic because no ingredient contains higher levels of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients than those which have been organically grown.”
