In stark contrast to the hot humid laid back vibe of Bali we spent the last 5 days in Hong Kong sleeping first in Kowloon, Hong Kong's fashion district and the worlds most populist city and then in Central Hong Kong. After hearing of the shocking population density(43,033 per square kilometer) I was surprised by how uncrowded Hong Kong felt. Seriously I've felt much more flustered (not to mentioned elbowed) on a hot summer day in Paris. Perhaps it was the February cold keeping people inside or just smart urban planning (lots of buildings connect not just at street level but also through skywalks or air paths or whatever futuristic name you would give that).
We took Theo to the Bird Market where he totally said "bird" twice but now wont repeat it, possibly because we embarrassed him with our over eager parent excitement, even at 11 months he is already cooler than both of us nerds
We ate some delicious Cantonese food
We saw remnants of the Beijing Olympics
scoped out Victoria Park which has a great jogging path with little exercise stations
stayed in a beautiful apartment which we rented from a delightful host on air bnb
looked up at big buildings a lot
bought bananas in night markets
and did some shopping. I got a great oversize faux swede coat for 50 hk$ (5 euros) in Kowloon and tried to find Bali heat suitable tops which I could layer to keep warm in Hong Kong because man were we unprepared for the cold. I did check the forecast but the problem is 16c (60f) seems fine unless you are accustomed to 30c (90f) in which case its absolutely freezing. I did however survive the whole trip in flip flops and still support my pack next to nothing theory because its a good excuse to do some shopping and when you overpack you still only want to wear one or two things anyway.
